Entertainment is Personal Choice

In the reading for this week there were three assumptions about entertainment. The first two were Entertainment  is just for fun, and entertainment is merely a reflection of culture. The third assumption is the only one of the three that I personally agree with and that is Entertainment is a person choice. I believe that entertainment is a person choice because I believe that in order for something to be entertaining to a person, they have to have an interest in that certain thing, and they have to like it. The example i would use in this situation would be that if my girlfriend wanted to watch something on TV like Jersey Shore, I would not find that show entertaining at all. If i were to get any sort of feeling from that show it would be annoyance, and I certainly do not find things that are annoying to be entertaining. Although many people may argue that just TV alone is a form of entertainment, I would argue that not all TV could be considered entertaining.
While there are certain pressures from advertisements and media to push specific forms of entertainment, it is a person choice whether or not a person will like or dislike it. I'm sure someone who may not like hockey or any violent sports in general would not consider them entertaining. They would probably say that those events bore them, in which case they are not being entertained. Entertainment is something that we decide on our own, it's not something that is simply formed by culture or media.

The Walmart Experiece

For our project, Lester, Danny and I went to Walmart and studied the areas of self checkout and electronics within the stores. We have created a powerpoint presentation that shows pictures of these particular departments within Walmart and we have each prepared our own piece in the presentation to talk about. Hopefully since there isn't any text on the powerpoint, the presentation should hold people's attention and make them actually listen to us in order to get the information. Our powerpoint is completed as of today and our talking points are almost done. It should be a fun and interesting topic to present.

Passive Agressive Notes

This week my favorite article to read was the most recent one that we read on Passive agressive notes. I loved some of the notes that were posted by some of the people whether they be in a workplace, an apartment complex, or just online. I also found it funny how all of the notes had some sense of humor to them whether it was intentional or not. Most people got their point across in the notes that they left, but it may not have been in the manner they intended too.
This thought of passive agressive notes really interested me because I had not thought of these kinds of notes as being passive agressive before. While I had an understanding of what it meant to be passive agressive before reading the article, I had only thought of it in a face to face situation before. I also hadn't realized that making a joke about a particular topic could be considered the most passive agressive act a person could perform. This article opened my eyes and really made me think about some of the jokes or comments I have made in the past. It made me wonder how many people think of me as being a passive agressive person, or just funny in some instances.

Blog 2

The article we read in class that had the biggest effect on me this week was definitely the article about the September 11th tattoos. I feel that tattoos can have a very deep meaning to a person and they can show a true piece to that persons identity. The tattoos that were shown in that article were ones that had a lot of meaning within themselves. They were memorials of all of the victims that unfortunately passed away during that tragic event. A tattoo is something that you have for life, and those people who have those tattoos about September 11th are showing how much that event impacted them. The tattoos give them the reminders every day that there was a time when this great nation was under attack and they are showing that they will never forget the event, or the people that lost their lives.

My Collage

In my collage for my English 102 class at Bridgewater State University will be highlighting the people that have played and currently do play a major role in my life. These people will be the ones that are most important to me in my everyday life. It will be people such as my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and my girlfriend. All of these people have played a major part in shaping who I am today in both good ways and bad. These people have been through the thicks and thins of my life and mean the world to me. I will show pictures of them along with words or catch phrases that we have accumulated over the years. My collage will be colorful and bright all while showing the heavy weight that all of these people hold in my heart.
